El Encanto de Cabo Pulmo is a vacation experience you're sure to cherish. Art is a central theme, with folkart collected over years of Mexico travel, plus contemporary nature-inspired works, and whimsical touches that will surprise and delight for the duration of your stay. Comfort-designed for southern Baja's famously mild climate, rooms spill out onto generous covered patios, sheltered from stiff winter nortes and open to the gentle breezes of summer. Private walled gardens put some of Baja's showiest natives on display, complemented by desert-adapted plants from throughout the world. Flowers attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies, plus birdbaths and feeders, keep the gardens lively! See Diane's Desert Garden Blog.

Accommodations

There are three cozy suites; each in a distintive style; each with a private entrance and comfortably-furnished covered patio; each with a mosquito net canopy bed, overhead fan, and air conditioning. Daily housekeeping. Two fold-away beds also available. Suites may be rented individually or as part of whole house rental. (See Rates and Reservations for details.)

The Fountain Suite on the main level of the house opens onto a courtyard crowned by a hand-painted talavera fountain. Can be made up as two Twins or one King (specify when you make your reservation). Included in Main House Rental.

The Casita Suite, with Queen-size bed, is separated from the main house by a breezeway. Has a shady patio bordering an intimate garden space. Available separately or as part of whole house rental.

The Vista Suite, with King-size bed, boasts the best views of the house. The open end on the patio roof is great for sunbathing and stargazing. Available separately or as part of whole house rental.

Eat, Drink and Make Merry

This gourmet kitchen has all the trimmings, with built-in BBQ and complete beverage bar. Dine indoors in the formal dining area, out on the garden patio, in the fountain court, or upstairs where you can drink in the view while you enjoy your meal.


Cook in, dine out, order out and dine in... You have lots of options, including having a traditional meal of chile rellenos, frijoles, fresh salsa and piping hot tortillas delivered right to your door. Or enjoy a gourmet meal prepared by your onsite hosts (retired restaurateurs with a flair for Asian cuisine).


Enjoy after-dinner drinks by the warm glow of your private campfire—a small rock-wall amphitheatre with traditional ceramic chimenea fireplace.

Home-Away-from-Home Entertainment

Rustic cabinet doors open to reveal a wide-screen TV with home theatre sound and DVD player, complemented by a collection of our all-time favorite movies. Auxiliary patio speakers, XM Satellite Radio, universal iPod dock, and a spare jack for your personal player round out the sound scene. A pair of powered speakers upstairs has an input jack for your personal player. Plus a wireless internet connection and computer. Or turn down the sound and peruse our collection of art and shelter books, or our Baja natural history field guides.

Beachin'

The beach is just a short walk away, but we wouldn't think of sending you there ill-prepared! We equip you with beach towels, folding chairs, umbrellas, ice chests and snorkeling gear. We even have a rack of straw hats for your use. We keep two sit-on-top kayaks stashed at the beach for your enjoyment. Rental kayaks also available. On your return, rinse and refresh at the outdoor shower.

Go Solar!

Cabo Pulmo is off the grid, but at El Encanto, you'd hardly know it. A generous solar array and battery bank, with energy-efficient fans, lights and appliances, provide all the power you'll need. We provide guidelines on "solar living" with your on-site orientation (no electric hair dryers, please!). Bedroom air conditioners (rarely needed) rely on a back-up generator that can be switched on from convenience of your room.

About your Hosts

Drawing on 12 years of living, creating, and playing in Southern Baja, design-build/artist couple Rob Lerner and Diane Varney have created a richly detailed home that reflects their passion for art, architecture and nature.

On-site hosts Karl & Kimmie Mohr, veterans of the resort and restaurant industries, are on hand to assure that your needs are attended to and that your stay at El Encanto de Cabo Pulmo is unforgettable!
